Laser technique to correct eye-problems

Laser based eye surgery

People, who are suffering from any sort of refractive error and want a correct vision, either they wear glasses or contact lenses. Wearing glasses is troublesome for some people and using contact lenses is bothersome for others. So, to correct vision or to treat any type of eye-disease, laser based treatment is the best procedure. This procedure can be little expensive than buying glasses or contact lenses, but nothing can be as valuable as a pair of eyes. Laser treatment for eye-problems seems the obvious solution because it has marked high success rate.

Procedure involved in Laser Eye Surgery

Talking about the procedure involved in laser treatment, it involves reshaping the cornea to tackle the defects that cause eyesight problems. A treatment includes step by step process. It all starts with numbing eyes using eye drops. Then area around eyes is cleaned thoroughly. A lid speculum is placed to keep eyelids open during the surgery. A suction device is placed on eye that will fixate it. During this period, patient may feel pressure. This may be little uncomfortable. And patient’s vision goes dark for a brief period of time. Eye-doctor or surgeon uses the microkeratome to create the corneal flap. The microkeratome will be removed after the flap has been created. The suction will be off and patient’s vision will return. This technique has given excellent results for people who suffered from shortsightedness also known as myopia. Myopia occurs when the cornea is too steeply curved so that the light falls into focus short of the retina at the back of the eye where the image is interpreted by the brain. It also treats long-sightedness or hyperopia. This type of refractive error occurs when the cornea is too flat so that the light focuses beyond the retina. Another vision-error is astigmatism. This is a condition where the cornea is oval, rather than spherical, which leads to blurred vision, as it creates two focal points on the retina. Remember, laser treatment can treat eye-problems, diseases and vision-errors caused due to changes in lifestyle, working conditions, eating habits, due to some medical conditions or may be because of past family history. But, it is very important to consult with eye-surgeon before going under any treatment. Laser surgery treatment is not a long-procedure. It takes less than 30 minutes to perform surgery for both eyes.
