Debunking laser eye surgery myths

A hell lot of information is available across different forms of media related to laser eye surgery. However, the unfortunate part is that a lot of misinformation is also being spread through such mediums which, in turn, are giving air to myths and misconceptions about laser surgeries for eye. And much of the blame goes to the internet where myths and rumors tend to spread like wildfire. These sets of misinformation lead to loss of confidence in the surgery among the people who are sitting on the fence and unable to decide whether they should go for the surgery or not. Through this article, we are going to throw light on some of them so that you can distinguish between myths and facts on your own.

Myth 1: Laser eye surgery is not safe
Fact: The fact remains that the so called perilous complications are extremely rare. The occurrences of such instances are so uncommon that less than 1% of people undergoing this surgery experience them. This is a significantly low percentage considering the fact that millions of people undergo the surgery every year. Moreover, by choosing a good surgeon, you can significantly reduce the chances of complications and get results as per your expectations.

Myth 2: You should find the surgeon that offers the cheapest price
Fact: Never make price your consideration if you want to get good results. And it is your own eyes at stake. So you just cannot afford to compromise with the quality of treatment. When it comes to price, it is usually directly proportional to quality. But that also does not mean that you blindly choose the most expensive one. The point is that you should not gamble on the ones who tend to lure unsuspecting patients with cheap price tags. Look for quality vision centers that enjoy good reputation in the market.

Myth 3: Laser Surgery is good for one and all
Fact: This fact might disappoint you a bit but this surgery is not the right solution for every individual who is suffering from vision impairment. For instance, if you are pregnant, then the surgeon would certainly advice you not to go for it. Also, the ones who are below the age of 18 years should avoid this surgery as their eyes are still in the growing phase. Moreover, the ones who are in sports such as boxing or martial arts are also not the right candidates for this type of surgery.
