Laser Vision Correction Treatments

Eye-problems such as refractive errors, vision-problems and diseases are treatable (we all know that). There were times when eye-problems were operated b surgical-methods in which patient had to undergo cuts and stitches, long downtime and long recovery time and much of pain. Now days, medical-science and technology have teamed up and introduce invasive, effective and easier laser vision correction procedure to treat vision problems. The Laser Technique based treatments are becoming much popular due to their effectiveness, great results, association with minimal or no pain/ discomfort. There are many names to this type of procedure. People call it by Vision correction surgery, refractive laser eye surgery and Laser Eye Surgery Procedure. There are types of laser eye surgery and most of the types are performed by reshaping the cornea. Cornea is a clear front part of the eye. Reshaping of cornea is done so that light, traveling through it, is properly focused onto the retina located in the back of the eye. Also, there are other types that involve replacing the eye’s natural lens. Laser Eye Surgery Procedures are approved by NASA and are performed by expert-eye-surgeons for people in need to correct refractive-vision-errors. Let’s discuss some of the laser eye surgery procedures.

• LASIK : This is laser in-situ keratomileusis used to correct vision in people who are nearsighted, farsighted, and astigmatism.

• PRK: It is a photorefractive keratectomy used to correct mild to moderate nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

• LASEK: This is laser epithelial keratomileusis and it is a variant of PRK. This surgery is performed to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

• RLE: It is Refractive Lens Exchange which is done for cataracts.

• PRELEX: It is short for presbyopic lens exchange. It is a procedure to correct presbyopia. Presbyopia is a condition in which the eye’s lens loses its flexibility and, making it difficult to focus on close objects.

There may be severe, mild and moderate vision-problems or eye-diseases that can be treated by different laser eye surgery procedures. Every case is different. Patients come with different types of eye-problems. As we discussed above that most of the laser surgery treatment types work by reshaping the cornea to correct vision problems and eye-diseases, deciding which type is best and most suitable for patients is a job of expert-eye-surgeon.
