Laser Eye Surgery to Correct Refractive Errors

Kinds of eye refractive errors are myopia (also known as nearsightedness), hyperopia (generally known as farsightedness) and astigmatism. At some stage of life, almost everyone suffer from some type of refractive errors. Some people get minor vision problems, and some get severe. There are several factors responsible for eye-problems such as: family medical history, complications during birth, health conditions, lifestyle, working conditions and etc. The types of vision problems are treatable. These eye-problems can be treated by laser surgery procedure.

LASIK, or "laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis," is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery to treat different types of eye-problems, vision-errors and eye-diseases. There are different types of laser procedures available and almost all of the surgery procedures are done by reshaping the cornea. Similarly, LASIK procedure includes reshaping of the cornea. This enables light entering the eye to be properly focused onto the retina for clearer vision. In the procedure, eye surgeon uses laser technique to create a thin and circular flap in the cornea. This flap is folded back to access the underlying cornea which is called as stroma). Surgeon then removes some corneal tissue using an excimer laser.

As highly specialized laser uses a cool ultraviolet light beam to remove microscopic amounts of tissue from the cornea to reshape it that is why it more accurately focuses light on the retina for improved vision. Once laser reshapes the cornea, the flap is then laid back in place to cover the area where the corneal tissue was removed. And finally the cornea is allowed to heal naturally. This surgery is pain free. And it is done in within 15 to 20 minutes for both eyes. The procedure is fast and quick.

The procedure is completely safe and secure. People need to make sure they approach the highly qualified and highly experienced eye-surgeon. This method provides results greatly. In result, people get improved vision. This procedure also eliminates the need of wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses. No stitches and no bandages are required. In Sydney, expert eye surgeons offer variety of laser eye surgeries for different eye-problems and diseases. They conduct consultation sessions with patients to educate and inform every important thing related to problem that patients are facing and about the surgery procedure, before and after precautions etc.
