There
is no doubt about effectiveness of laser technique in medical science and
technology. Several disorders and problems faced by human beings are being
treated using laser technique. This procedure is proved really successful for
treatments of eye problems. As there are different types of eye disorders &
problems people face, there are different types of laser surgeries for eye. It
is true that eye surgery has made a lot of development and provided positive
results. Moreover, advanced laser eye surgeries and treatment procedures have
eliminated use of steel blades and painful procedures.
Currently,
almost every type of eye-problem or vision-problem can be treated. The most
common procedure to correct eye-disorder can be categorized in two types of
surgery. Let’s discuss them one by one:
- LASIK – Known as Lasr-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis is most popular type of laser eye surgery. It is performed to correct or treat myopia, non-extreme hypermetropia and astigmatism. With the highest success rate this procedure is safe and eliminates need of wearing eye-glasses and contact lenses.
- PRK – It is known as Photorefractive Keratectomy. Now, this procedure is considered a better version of LASIK eye surgery, used on patient with thin corneas. This procedure includes: outermost lawyer of the cornea is scraped, manually by expert eye-surgeon, and then laser is used to reshape the underlying surface of cornea. This is to correct the vision. This completely safe and effective process requires longer recovery period.
Under
the two types or categories of laser eye surgery, we have discussed above, many
variations and flavors of eye surgery are available and are performed by expert
eye-surgeons considering type and seriousness of problem faced by patients. As
mentioned above, different treatments for different eye-problems are performed;
there are several procedures to treat different minor and major refractive
errors and more severe eye-diseases as well. An expert eye-surgeon decides and
advices patient to go under particular procedure considering what type of
eye-problem he/she is suffering from. A consultation session is conducted,
where patient must share each and every detail about his/her past medical
history and health condition so that an expert can evaluate everything and then
decide which procedure to perform on patient to give best of the results.
